I'm trying this new fad called uh, blogging. I believe it's blogging or yogging. It might be a soft 'bl'.

Have you ever thought of a joke or written a song, only to find out somebody beat you to it? Did you wake up one morning hell bent on converting your crazy dream invention of a website that allowed you to keep in touch with your friends and network in your chosen profession while showing everyone what a phenomenal life you live only to google the concept and find Facebook? When I decided to blog, researching the whole thing gave me a similar feeling, a kick in the teeth from Dr. Disappointment.
A couple of weeks ago, I found a blog that I loved so much I pulled spare time out of thin air until I had read everything I could find online written by that person. It inspired me greatly and gave me a tremendous urge to start blogging. I searched for more blogs in a similar vein only to find the market was saturated. Good blogs may not quite be ten a penny but they are certainly easy to find. I was so disheartened, I figured there was no point investing the scraps of my spare time into something so thoroughly done.
I took solace in the fact I had no time to catalogue my life and loves online for perusal by the odd over-stimulated, utterly bored person who might happen to stumble upon my work. But I couldn't drown out my longing to write regularly and be appreciated for it. The concept of blogging took up residency in my the very back of my mind and snatched at my concentration whenever it saw the opportunity… which was often.

TANGENT ALERT...
Anyway...
I continued to search though cyberspace for new blogs to devour and I saw the few I already followed in an entirely new light. I admired the authors so much and wished I had hopped on the band wagon long before everyone else did so that I too might be noticed.
Yet the longer I pondered the closer I came to writing this. I realised that the popularity of a blog is generally only important to those seeking celebrity status, those who are unsure of their abilities or the people blessed with a hunger to succeed in everything they turn their hand to. I'm not exactly brimming with self confidence but I am happy in myself and in my life so these things just don't come into it for me. I'm happy to write for the sake of writing.
I think the true beauty of a blog lies in the way the author can put the absolute best of themselves into each piece they write. Writing boils down all the rambling and the riff raff of our conscious minds into something truly meaningful. If even one person saw that aspect of your personality and understood you a little better, what a beautiful achievement it would be. Even if a post chews the cud of an utterly miserable or embarrassing aspect of one's personality, the way it's written can make the reader smile, raise their eyebrows and above all else relate. Each post is a pretty window into the mind of the blogger. Crafted out of love and passion for whatever subject is being covered.
Sadly, even this realization can't force me to prioritize writing here over my family, friends, college work and the dozen other items that live permanently on my to-do list. So when I sat at lunch with Miss Melodramatic and Miss Zombie Nerd last week, this blog felt like the epiphany to end all epiphanies! None of us have the time to post often, but together we share the power to make something we can each be proud of.
So when I find the time to post here, be prepared for anything. My passions are many and I'd like to share anything worthy of clicking 'save'. I know we haven't invented the wheel, I know we aren't exactly breaking new ground or even cataloguing anything that has never quite been before… But FUCK IT. Why not?
Love,
